RGR developed the landscape plan to accompany a major expansion project for Peconic Landing, a CCRC in Greenport, NY. The plan included new roads, parking areas, sidewalks, and perimeter buffer plantings as well as four outdoor courtyards. Two courtyards were designed for general use, developed as garden environments featuring comfortable places for sitting among flowering trees, shrubs, and perennials. The other two courtyards were programmed for specific uses – one as a memory garden for residents with dementia and the other for physical therapy. The memory care garden includes elements designed to provide opportunities for residents to engage in familiar activities, such as caring for plants, as well as the textures and smells that are typically found in a residential garden. The physical therapy courtyard includes mobility challenges such as traversing different paving materials, walking up an inclined ramp, and negotiating a set of steps.
