Working with the Friends of Stannards Brook Park, RGR Landscape prepared a master plan for the preservation of a 3.5-acre neighborhood park in Port Washington, NY. To begin the process, the RGR team conducted a series of workshops with village officials and neighborhood residents to identify the important issues and develop consensus on a preferred conceptual approach. Based on the community input, the master plan included improvements to the stream channel to address persistent flooding problems, a new park entry structure, an accessible entry and walkways, clearance of invasive species to restore native plant communities and improve visibility, and installation of new site furniture and lighting. Based on the RGR master plan, the project was awarded nearly $800,000.00 in construction grants from the NYS Environmental Protection Fund and the Nassau County Environmental Bond Act. RGR, along with deBruin Engineering, then prepared the design documents necessary for bidding and construction of the project.
