In addition to several landscape restoration projects, including a new swimming pool, bluestone patio, and porch for this residence in Larchmont, NY, RGR designed a new 2-1/2-story addition to the main house. The new 2000-square foot addition includes a new garage and mechanical space on the lower level; a “Great Room,” bathroom, and kitchen-dining area on the main level; and a library, bathroom, and hallway connection on the upper level. A linear porch extends along the entire side of the addition facing the spectacular views of Long Island Sound. “The Great Room” features a cathedral space, balcony, and cupola. Panoramic water views can also be seen by means of a viewing platform that is connected to the upper-level balcony by a spiral staircase. Both the viewing platform and the spiral stair are suspended from the ceiling structure of the new addition. A large stone fireplace and bluestone hearth extend along one entire wall of the “Great Room,” serving as a counterpoint to the continuous glazed surfaces that face the water.
