RGR Landscape worked with Gensler to design a 20,000-square foot roof terrace at One Madison Avenue for the New York headquarters of IBM, which occupies floors 2, 8, 9 and 10 of the building. Floor 10 serves as an amenity space with a cafeteria and auditorium as well as the terrace, which wraps around three sides of the interior space, overlooking Madison Square Park and allowing expansive views of Mid-town Manhattan. The design of the terrace includes themed areas for a variety of purposes including dining, meeting, lounging, and simply enjoying the view. Planter surrounds made of aluminum at varying heights, sit on top of concrete pavers to create planting space to support a diverse palette of small trees, shrubs, and perennials that provide an ever-changing outdoor experience through the seasons. Serving as an outdoor space for both collaboration and relaxation, the terrace contributes to the well-being and culture of the IBM staff.
