RGR Landscape, along with McLaren Engineering, provided design services for Henry Hudson Quadricentennial Park in the Village of Haverstraw, NY. This new one-mile-long waterfront park creates a unique recreational resource with extensive access to the water and dramatic views up and down the Hudson River. RGR led a series of community workshops to establish goals and priorities for the project and then, based on the community input, developed a conceptual plan that included a waterfront walkway, trails, boardwalks, seating areas, exercise stations, a kayak launch, and “get-downs” for easy access to the water. A primary goal of the design effort was to enhance the shoreline protection where necessary such that the recreational areas could withstand the forces of the river and resist future degradation from periodic severe storms. The initial phase of construction included a new pedestrian bridge and rock storage basin that provides resilience by holding and releasing high volumes and velocities of storm water while minimizing erosion.
