Together with the Shanghai office of Perkins Eastman, RGR Landscape designed the outdoor spaces for a new K-12 school in Hanoi, Vietnam for the Daesung School – an international school that originated in California in the 1930’s. The site is located within the EcoPark district, a new community south of Hanoi that emphasizes sustainable building practices. RGR created an outdoor environment that is consistent with the educational philosophy of the Daesung School, which is based on the notion of self-directed learning. The design intent was for the landscape to serve as part of the curriculum in guiding the social and physical development of the students. The site plan, which is designed as a place for children to learn by “observing and doing,” includes an ecological classroom, a sculpture garden, and a wetland walk bordering the iconic bell tower.
