Working with Gensler, RGR Landscape designed a 71st floor roof terrace as an outdoor amenity space for a trading company with offices at 3 World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan. Adjacent to an interior café and lounge, the terrace mirrors interior uses by providing dining tables, sofas, seating, and leaning options conducive to social and work interaction. A pergola provides shade and an element of human scale to the terrace. The plantings are an ensemble of low, colorful sedum contrasted by tall, straw-colored grasses. The ornamental grasses are dynamic and provide movement in the windy environment in contrast to the more stationary carpet of colors and textures created by the sedum. All the plantings are low-maintenance and drought-tolerant.
