Wildlife Conservation Society:
Living and Learning Center at Bronx Zoo
Bronx, New York

The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) selected RGR to assist in conceptual planning and feasibility assessment for a Living and Learning Center at the Bronx Zoo. The center will house environmental education classrooms and be used for hundreds of school and general audience programs throughout the year. The facility will incorporate green strategies for site and building design, establishing WCS as a leader in the field of conservation.

The building will occupy a wooded site adjacent to a newly certified wetland that provides a suitable environment for field-based activities. The site plan accommodates all existing large trees while the building design incorporates passive solar design concepts, utilizes sustainable materials and finishes, and considers long-term operational costs for building systems. Through its design, the building itself will provide a unique environmental learning experience.
