Projects: Trails and Greenways

Palisades Trail
Orange and Rockland Counties, New York

RGR led a diverse team in the preparation of an Expanded Project Proposal (EPP) for the Palisades Trailway-a more than 20-mile shared-use recreation path proposed along the route of the Palisades Interstate Parkway. The report is intended to fulfill requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the New York State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQR). Public participation was an important element in the planning/design process. RGR conducted two workshops to seek input from local government officials and concerned neighbors to better understand the goals and issues of the potential users and adjacent property owners.

A primary objective was to design the safest possible facility while maintaining reasonable construction costs. When complete, the Palisades Trailway will serve as an important link in a regional network of shared-use recreation paths that connects metropolitan areas of New York and New Jersey to natural areas like Bear Mountain State Park.
