Projects: Streetscapes

Main Street
New Rochelle, New York

RGR worked with the City of New Rochelle Department of Economic Development to prepare streetscape design guidelines as part of a downtown master plan project. The streetscape design focused on a one-half mile segment along Main Street, as well as several nearby public spaces, Memorial Plaza, and Library Plaza.

RGR developed a vocabulary of new paving materials, street furniture, lighting, and signage to set the framework for future development throughout the downtown area. New elements include gray-tinted scored concrete sidewalk pavement, Belgian block edging, granite curbs, cast iron tree grates, World's Fair benches, and historic lighting fixtures. The scheme is intended to blend the design elements of the streetscape with the historic character of the architecture of downtown New Rochelle.
