The Bronx Zoo: Wildfowl Marsh Wetland Habitat
Bronx, New York

RGR staff, as the New York office of Coe Lee Robinson Roesch, implemented the reconstruction of the Waterfowl Pond at the Bronx Zoo for the New York Zoological Society and New York City Department of General Services.

The work included the dredging and restoration of the existing pond, creation of new islands to provide wildlife cover and breeding areas, extensive new plantings of native bottomlands and marsh species, pedestrian trails, elevated wooden walkways and viewing areas, and a recirculation and filtration system for this closed and self-sustaining wetland ecosystem.

This exhibit restoration project recreated a natural wetland environment and a viable habitat for waterfowl and other wetland wildlife species in an otherwise hostile urban context.
